1月27日は作曲家ヴォルフガング・アマデウス・モーツァルト（Вольфганг Амадей Моцарт）のお誕生日でした。35年の短い生涯のなかで600曲以上もの美しい音楽を作曲し、今も世界中で愛されています。そんなモーツァルトがロンドンを訪れていたのはご存知でしょうか？モーツァルトを聴きながらモーツァルトゆかりの地を訪ねてみました。
Victoria Railway Stationから徒歩数分の場所にあるOrange Squareは、かつてマーケットとして開かれた場所だったようですが、現在も毎週土曜朝にはthe farmers marketが開かれています。ここに可愛らしいモーツァルトの銅像があります。
4歳から作曲を始め神童と呼ばれたモーツァルトを連れて、その才能を披露してお金を稼ぐために父親レオポルトは世界ツアーを企画します。ザルツブルグ、ウィーン、ミュンヘン、ブリュッセル、パリ、ロンドン・・・17都市を巡ったそうです。ロンドンはそのツアーの最後を飾った都市で、1764年4月、モーツァルト8歳の時のことでした。
はじめはCecil Courtにある宮廷音楽師アーベルの屋敷で暮らしていましたが（【英国のお気に入り】ロンドンのなかのモーツァルト ２）、都会の空気が合わなかった父親はこの田舎の雰囲気の残るPimlicoへ移りました。暮らしていた家には、blue plaqueがついており、ここでモーツァルトが最初の交響曲を作曲したことが記されています。
ちょうどロックダウン中にモーツァルトの伝記を読んだ息子によると、ロンドンではクリスチャン・バッハに出会っており、すでに教師を見つけることが難しかったモーツァルトにピアノの演奏はもちろんたくさんの音楽的なインスピレーションを与えたと言います。また、ソプラノ歌手マンツォーリの歌声と劇場で観たオペラに感激し、いつか自分もオペラを作曲したいと夢見るシーンもありました。ロンドン滞在中には、世界最古のロンドン動物園で象やロバなどの珍しい動物を見て楽しんだり、美味しい英国の紅茶やスコーンも楽しんだようです。

高級住宅街としても人気のエリアでおしゃれなお店も多く、街歩きの楽しいエリアです。

☆Mozart in London
January 27th was the birthday of the famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
During the lockdown my son read a biography of Mozart and he was surprised that Mozart came to London and stayed here for several weeks. Therefore we visited places connected to Mozart in London on Saturday. We drove a car while listening to Mozart music.
A short walk from Victoria Railway Station, there is a statue of Mozart in Orange Square. There was an open place for the market and even now we can enjoy the farmers market on Saturday mornings.
Why was Mozart in London? Mozart was a gifted child and his musical talent was well known in his country. His father planned to go abroad and make more money by doing a musical tour with Mozart.
The tour took in seventeen cities, including: Salzburg, Vienna, Munich, Brussels, Paris and London. London was the last leg of the tour. They stayed in Cecil Court (near Leicester Square). However, the London smog didn’t suit Leopold, so they moved to the countryside of Pimlico.
King George III invited Mozart for a private performance. The house where Mozart lived is near Orange Square and has a blue plaque. He composed his first symphony at the age of 8 there. In London he met another legendary composer Bach and received musical inspiration. Bach taught Mozart how to improve his piano skills and took him to the theater to watch an opera. Mozart was so impressed and dreamed of composing his own opera someday! The book says he also visited London Zoo and saw a lot of interesting animals(an elephant and donkeys) and enjoyed tea and scones!
